Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
I upgraded to Lion over the weekend and didn't have any issues with Perian until today when I installed the 1.2.3 update. I only use Perian for one specific task: converting 720p MKV files into Xbox 260 compatible MP4 files. My process, which has worked for years, is to open the MKV file in Quicktime 7 Pro, then export the file to MP4 using the passthrough setting.
However, after upgrading to 1.2.3 Quicktime 7 now tells me that my MKV files are "not a movie file". I've already hit the uninstall button and downloaded and reinstalled Perian 1.2.3 but no joy.
Any suggestions?

We need a sample to investigate this. See the end of http://trac.perian.org/.

Yeah, I have similar problem MKVs were playing just fine yesterday but not that I installed the Perian update the playback is laggy and paused. I'm on 10.4.11

Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
Oh noes. Can you link me to v.1.2.2 then? it works a lot better. Thanks.
Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
The download should still be up, just change the version number to 1.2.2
Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
I'm experiencing the same problem with all my MKVs that worked with 1.2.2 under Lion. Even the ones I'm currently encoding myself with Handbrake using the high profile are experiencing the same problem.

Good, then you should have no problem with the post made over 2 weeks ago:Einkoro wrote:Even the ones I'm currently encoding myself with Handbrake ...

Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
I'll produce an example when I get home from work this evening.
I just noticed it works fine with 1.2.3 on my Lion work machine which is identical to my Mac mini at home also running Lion. Rolling back to 1.2.2 did not fix the problem on my home machine. Are there application support or preference directories/files I can delete that might be causing an issue?

Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
Not likely unless you were using the hidden preferences via the defaults command. All prefs are stored in Library/Preferences/org.perian.Perian.plist. You should also check for any other QT components that you may have installed.Einkoro wrote:Are there application support or preference directories/files I can delete that might be causing an issue?

Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
Looks like I can play SOME MKV files but some files still give me the warning about needing QuickTime 7. How do I create a sample for you guys? What software do I need?
Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
I can't seem to duplicate the issue now after removing 1.2.3, installing 1.2.2 and then upgrading to 1.2.3 again. All the mkvs giving me problems before are working fine now.
Re: Unable to open MKV after 1.2.3 update
Issue seems to back. Two samples and a media info dump of the first. 2nd one is large enough (25gb) it seems to crash media info.
