10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) No Subtitles

Video and original Japanese playback is fine; but, there are no subtitles for English. The .avi and .srt are in same folder. Subtitles under View cannot be turned on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Most likely, you have some other component installed that's overriding Perian in reading the avi file. Please read on removing obsolete components: http://www.perian.org/#support
