http://trac.perian.org/wiki/SupportedFormats lists the formats it supports.

http://trac.perian.org/wiki/CodecsObsoletedByPerian lists the components it obsoletes.

Please don't pass this around too much.

I'll be on this like a rabid dog once I get home from work.

Kinda :) Picked up a mention of Perian on gbooker's A/52 QuickTime Component ticket list and found my way here from there. I've been using that A/52 Component for a considerable period of time so keep up to date.

QuickTime components for a/v decoding and encoding are a mess at present and I'm looking forward to the prospect of Perian cleaning up a lot of that mess.

Ah, the puzzle pieces fit now. That totally makes sense.

I think the plan is to get matroskaqt and a52 integrated for 1.0, we'll see though.

You'll definitely appreciate this then:

Look at the number :)

Bear in mind I haven't cleared out what Perian replaces, but still.

the download worked fine.
i know you are probably aware of this, but the diskimage will need a face lift prior to final release.

Oh, one thing I forgot.

Perian works on 10.4 only. The disk image will not mount on 10.3 either.

I don't feel comfortable using a .pkg on beta software like this. I trust you guys and all, but I just don't want to this to screw up my system.

OMG a bug report.

Perian 0.5b2 won't open .divx files. Renaming .divx files to .avi then opening in QuickTime player results in perfect playback. Opening a .divx file results in an error box. .divx files open just fine in VLC.

.divx is just .avi "rebranded" so I suspect this is just a case of recognising the file somewhere in the component. fourcc codes are unchanged.

I experienced the same.
