[Feature Request] Ability to embed HTML links

Post by prowluser8422 »

I realize that you can include URLs within a notification, and they become hyperlinks. However, it is sometimes needed to include a very long URL.

I would find it very useful to be able to embed some type of HTML anchor with some text hyperlinked a URL. An example, might be simplest to understand:

Code: Select all

Your web server is down. Tap <a href="http://very.long.url.here/">here</a> for more details.
In this example, the word "here" would be hyperlinked to the long URL, but not take up massive amounts of space in the notification, and leave the notification much more readable.

Cheers

While the underlying architecture uses a web view (I believe), Prowl displays using a higher-level display that doesn't parse HTML.

It might be possible to switch over to using one directly for display purposes, I'll have to investigate. I have the feeling it would slow things down considerably.

Might be easier just to use a URL shortening service

It isn't a problem with the length of the message, but with the readability of the message. It is a huge benefit to be able to wrap a link in a single word description

Indeed, but a URL shortener can generate pretty short URLs.

I.e.:

Your server is down. Details: http://tr.im/something

But ugly if you want to do something like:

Your server is down
Acknowledge | Comment | Disable

Where ack, comment, and disable are all URLs

True, that is a bit nicer. I am not against it, I am just concerned for the performance issues involved.

Something like:

Your server is down.

Acknowledge <http://bit.ly/blah>
Comment <http://bit.ly/blah>
Disable <http://bit.ly/blah>

It might get redundantly annoying, but at least, in the short term, it's better than nothing.

Prowl 1.2 adds a url parameter which is a hint to Prowl to redirect to that URL, and present it in the notification as a tappable button. This will likely serve the needs here pretty well until parsed markup happens.

Hi,
is there a chance to realize the Request? Neither the Url shortener nor the url Parameter solves my Problem.

This would be very nice. I don't see how this would impact performance significantly.
