Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Are there any plans to extend Prowl to other handsets?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
As it stands now, both of those are in Java, so it might not be that bad.
However: Blackberry's push system has a pay-per-message limit. Android's "push" (tickles) aren't publicly available. So…not yet. Palm has also announced webOS will have push as well.

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Thank you. I'll stay tuned.
Keep us in mind when you roll out to other handsets. We'd like to get on board as early as possible.

Vic

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
I think it'll be a likely goal after the other platforms a little bit more refined/developed; as it stands now they're not quite there yet, because polling the Prowl server is just a huge waste when push is available. I'm not sure I want to do Blackberry, mostly because of RIM's insanity, but I definitely want to grab Android or WebOS as a platform in the near future.

Hi Zac, any movement on a Droid version?
Thanks,
Vic

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
I haven't looked into it since Android currently lacks push notifications, and blackberry charges by the message.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Prowl is the only thing I've missed since jumping ship to the Nexus One. But the latest Android update which came out in the last few days appears to support a push-like "Android Cloud to Device Messaging Framework" http://code.google.com/android/c2dm/
I'd love to see Prowl in the Android Market in the future.

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Indeed, this new addition to Android looks very interesting.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
That sounds like great news. Does that mean that an Android version is definitely 'in the pipeine'? I'm not in a position to be able to offer much in terms of assistance in programming it, but prowl is so useful on my iPod Touch and I'm well keen to get it shooting updates and messages across to my always connected work Android phone instead of my rarely connected personal MP3 player... Any ideas when we might be able to expect some good news?
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
stupid question maybe,
but how hard is it to modifiy the source of this app: http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/
so that it is useable as prowl on android ?

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Am looking forward to the new Android too, it will be interesting to see what features they have kept.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
I just wanted to also chime in here saying I loved prowl on my iphone, but now I have an android phone and would love to have prowl on it as well. I'd pay $3 again for the android app.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
I am also for the porting of Prowl to the Android phones.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Looks like apps with android's cloud messaging (C2DM) enabled are finally rolling out. Probably due to the fact that there are a lot more phones now on 2.2. Both Foursquare & Facebook are supporting push notification on Android now. Will we be seeing a Prowl version soon?

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
I signed up for the beta about a week ago. Got the SDK installed, and I should be getting my Android device back soon (a friend is currently borrowing it). After that, I'm going to see how the infrastructure for Android's push goes.

Re: Android?
moderately pleased DroidX 2.2.1 user (when not irked... by lack of non-dev non-root user control of application permissions, resource hogging, or malware overrunning the noble notion of freeware, etc). Google market needs to move from " paid / freeware " to " paid / malware / freeware "

For C2DM to work, the mobile device must include at least one logged in Google account.

I started to use NotifyMyAndroid for the Android.
So far so good. They just released, so its still pretty basic. But works for me.

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
Yikes, that's like a _literal_ copy of the Prowl website.
Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?
An Android version of Prowl is getting close to done; I'm working with a friend for him to write and maintain it. Most of the 1.0 functionality is done, the C2DM code just needs to be finished.

This is great news! Can't wait for it to be available!
