TuneKeys-GrowlTunes interaction? and a question

In trying to understand just how all of this is working together, I thought I'd ask about this behavior I've noticed.
Here's what I'm seeing. When a track changes, I get a notification with all of the info, as such:

Nothing wrong there at all. However, when I use TuneKeys' "Show current iTunes track information (0.6)" hotkey, it appears as such:

My initial thought was that it was an issue with GrowlTunes, but now I'm not so sure after thinking about it. Part of my trouble is I don't have a complete grasp of Growl notifications - I thought that getting iTunes info required Growl to talk to GrowlTunes which would then talk to iTunes. Now, I'm thinking that's probably not right. I would now guess that TuneKeys is actually grabbing the iTunes info and sending that to Growl to display... so, well, if I'm right, then nevermind.
If that's the case, I guess my real question here is if there's a way to tell GrowlTunes itself to display a notification without utilizing applescript. I saw how to do it with a script here on the forums, but was wondering if there was a way to directly tie a hotkey to an on-demand GrowlTunes notification. I just think they're purtier and more informative!
