All of a sudden New Growl Notifications?
Alright....don't know what caused this but:
Bottom line up front: Yesterday I started receiving new hardware growl notifications as follows (nothing was connected to the computer):
USB Bus connected (multiple ones), Bluetooth USB connected, firewire, i-Sight connected, etc.....
This happened after waking the computer up from sleep on battery power. I have never gotten these messages before...
Standard messages I receive are: Volume mounted, ip assigned, Network mounted, etc.
I restarted it (on battery power)... and got the same notifications. I then shut it off and connected the power and turned it on and did not get the USB notifications. After that I tried it on battery power again and did not get the USB notifications....all was well
...just wondering if it is a Growl bug..or possibly something wrong with the computer?
I did notice that every USB notification I was receiving was listed in the USB tab under system profiler. Does the computer connect these things in the background whenever it is turned on...and it was just a glitch?
It has not happened since
Thanks
Growl v. 1.1.1
2.2 Intel Core2Duo MBP
10.4.10 (Tiger OS)

Thanks for the reply....When you say it registers connected USB devices...do you mean when I plug in something externally? Because I didn't have anything connected....no external USB devices, no external firewire devices...iSight is built in.evands wrote:Yes, every time you start up your computer it registers connected USB devices.
Am I supposed to be getting those notifications through hardware growl without anything connected externally?
Thanks
You shouldn't be blitzed with a deluge of notifications like that. Evan was referring to external USB devices.
Try my software!

That's what I thought...thanks for the reply. Has this ever happened before? Seems to be an isolated incident (hasn't happened since) and the computer is running fine. I'm just kind of concerned that Hardware Growler may have picked up on a potential problem with the computer (purchased in August).bgannin wrote:You shouldn't be blitzed with a deluge of notifications like that. What do you think? Just a glitch? I find it odd that it gave me notifications of everything listed below which is internal to the computer:
USB Bus (three times)
Bluetooth USB
Apple Keyboard/Trackpad
IR Receiver
High Spped Bus
iSight
after that was done it proceded to tell me the normal stuff
Volume mounted
ip address assigned
Network hardrive
airport

I'm curious as to whether it's actually software (i.e., OS level) or hardware-based. I think you may be right that it's not actually Hardware Growler's fault.

Thanks for helping ... it just happened again about 1.5 hours ago. Except this time it just gave me multiple USB connection alerts and I was connected to external power this time
I ran a full hardware test using the install CD and there were no issues found....it said it tested the logic board, etc...
Think I'm ok?

Happened again....got the full gamet of notifications to include keyboard etc...
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but whenever I restart my computer I always have a "recovered files" folder in the trash that contains growl stuff....I have just been deleting them by emptying the trash. This was just "recovered" and in the trash
Growl-7F4ABE07-A2F3-4434-BA5D-8A46EB349CF8.growlRegDict
any thoughts?

If that's in your logs then HardwareGrowler is behaving correctly. Your system is posting USB messages that HardwareGrowler then displays.
Try my software!
