how do i get rid of 0.7.6?

I'm on a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10.

I have had 0.7.6 for a couple years. Today, it hung when I rolled my curser over the notification - I couldn't get rid of the notification without rebooting.

So I downloaded 1.1.2 and installed. but 0.7.6 is still there -- i get double notifications. and I can't turn 0.7.6 off, nor can I uninstall it -- it keeps asking me to find growlhelper.app for it, but growlhelper.app doesn't appear to exist on my computer.

I've uninstalled 1.1.2, and I'm still getting notifications from 0.7.6 (thankfully they no longer seem to be hanging). But growl doesn't appear in my system preferences pane anymore, so i can't make any changes or adjustments to 0.7.6.

how do i uninstall 0.7.6 and start over with 1.1.2?

oh, and thanks in advance for any help.

Look in ~/Library/PreferencePanes and see if Growl is in there. Let me know if it is.

it's not.

Is there one in it?

Sorry -- your answer was in the subject line, but the subject line is hard to read. No -- there wasn't one there.

Is Growl.prefpane in /Library/PreferencePanes?

And ya, I totally missed the subject, thanks for clarifying.

Nope -- nothing growl related is in there.

Is GrowlHelperApp running?

I don't have GrowlHelperApp. Or if I do have it, I can't find it anywhere. Spotlight finds only one thing with that name: com.Growl.GrowlHelperApp.plist. That's all I have.

I believe Tick was referring to GrowlHelperApp running (not the application itself, which is actually in Growl.prefPane) which can be verified using Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities/)

Oh right -- in that case, no, it's not running.

Then Growl is not on your system. Brian was correct about where I was going with this.

But how is it working?

Every time you post to this forum, I get an email, and the way I know about the email is that there's a growl notification -- smoke, to be exact.

how is that not on my system? i'm really confused.

If GrowlHelperApp is not present in Activity Monitor then Growl is not displaying a notification. No way around that.

No disrespect intended, but that's exactly what's happening.

GrowlHelperApp does not appear in Activity Monitor.

Growl displays a notification whenever I get an email.

Is there another name under which GrowlHelperApp might operate? An old name or something?

Nope, it's always used the same name.

Show us a screenshot of what you are seeing. You'll need to upload it somewhere else.

What are you using for a mail client? How is it configured to post Growl notifications?
