Growl 1.1.2 no longer uses a preset sounds in Intearchy

Post by PjonesCET »

After fixing a Problem with O.7.6 and 1.1.2 being installed at the same time. I now notice Growl sounds are missing on Interarchy.

There were a preset set of sounds. I see I can set about 50 items in Interarchy for sounds, but only system sounds are available now.

Anyone know what happened?

Growl displayed these sounds before?

yes in the preferences for Growl, when you clicked on settings for Interarchy there was no way to change them to something else, but they were listed

I don't really see how that would be possible.

Growl 1.1 scanned /System/Library/Sounds for sounds to list in the application configuration section.

Growl 1.1.2 searches in that path, (home)/Library/Sounds, and /Library/Sounds. There's never been a way (to my knowledge) for an application to override these unless they add sounds to these locations.

0.7.6 did not have sound support at all, except through speech and a third party plugin. bgannin covered everything after that.

If that was the case how was Interarchy 8.x when opened when it uploads or downloads files or a transfer has an error made a unique sound.

in 1.1.2 nothing, in fact there wasn't even any notifications period until I went into Growl and set each item to I wanted to notify. I liked the old system better.

Could Interarchy tell Growl what to do maybe that's it.

There's no way for Interarchy to 'tell' Growl what to do. An application specifies a notification, provides the title and description, a few other settings (icon, sticky, priority, clickback handler) and sends it to Growl. Growl then checks the user's settings to see what display to use, if sticky should be respected, react as needed with respect to priority, and shows the icon. In 1.1.2 this also includes checking if a sound is associated with the notification. There are no ways for them to do so.

The only change on your system was to upgrade from 0.76 to 1.1.2, Interachy has not changed whatsoever? Does the unique sound return if you uninstall 1.1.2 and then install 0.76?

As you can hopefully tell this situation doesn't make much sense to me and I'm trying to puzzle out the barest isolated case to explain.

Actually I have OSX.3.9 installed on my tower unit. And I have those unique sounds because I "have to" use 0.7.6 on it.

So I have the sounds already set in X.3.9 without my intervention.

And they were working on my laptop until I switched to 1.1.2.

What you are talking about is impossible, as we've already said. So show us a screenshot of how to configure sounds on your 10.3.9 box, prove us wrong.

How do I attach a screen shot. All of the items you will see for interachy was already preset by no intervention by myself.

on 1.1.2 which I will have to start up and make a screen shot there and send. The Control panel items are totally different, when you get to interarchy settings.

I think maybe by discarding everything to install the 1.1.2 upgrade I discarded some presets setup by interarchy.

Can or will any of you send me a note to my email address so that I can send you screen shots created by SnapzX Pro in .png format of both the .0.76 1.1.2 Control panels.

In the .0.7.6 it will show that interarchy has already preset settings for interarchy in 0.7.6 yet except for three I set nothing is set in 1.1.2.

I already replied to the email you sent me. You sent a blank response. Please send one with the images as I indicated prior.

Your screenshots bear out what we are telling you. 0.76 has no way to set a sound or it would have been in the bottom table. When you installed 1.1 the sound should be set to "None" until changed. Are you saying that without any modification when you went from 0.76 to 1.1 some were set to "None" and some were set to "Glass"?

Thanks, your right. Turns out that the sounds I hear are from Interarchy, they are actually internal to Interarchy. And they only sound if Interarchy is the "background".

My apologies for sending everyone in a wild goose chase.

When I use Interarchy, I mirror to two different computers a Laptop and the Desktop. I guess what threw me off is the new design of the setup in preferences.

Change is inevitable. There are numerous threads discussing the new look of the Applications tab, please post in these since this one is now resolved.

Have no objection Change. Its just different. The new way seem to look more complex because you don see all the items to set up on a scrollable list as in 0.7.6. But that's not say it's that much more difficult.

Please post your opinions in one of the applicable threads instead of this, it makes following topics that much more difficult.

This threaded ended up on a good note, and it's resolved, so I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread and then get back to turkey.
