Growl 1.1.3

Postby boredzo » Sat Jun 07, 2008 1:35 am

NOTE: If the install fails for you, please read this other topic. And please don't post about that problem in this topic. Thanks.

Available either through Growl's own updater or from the website, Growl 1.1.3 brings these enhancements:

Growl core improvements:

  • Worked around conflict with Logitech Control Center 2.4, and implemented countermeasures in case another input-manager hack in the future has the same bug
  • Show notifications on every Space (Leopard)
  • Fixed bug that caused Growl to silently not show notifications if you deleted your default display
  • Fixed bug where Growl would fail to clean up .growlRegDict files in the Temporary Items folder, instead leaving them to appear in the Trash when you next logged in
  • Use the alert-sound device, rather than the default sound device, to play sounds
  • Don't spam the Console log when a forwarding attempt fails

Extras improvements:

  • Rewrote GrowlMail to fix conflict between it and Leopard, and make it much more robust for the future
  • GrowlMail installer package now allows installing to other startup volumes without restarting
  • Updated GrowlSafari to work with Safari 3.0 and later (thanks to Ben Willmore)
  • Fixed growlnotify to actually send the notification on Leopard
  • GrowlTunes no longer shows the rating if it's 0, since you probably just haven't rated it
  • Fixed German localization of GrowlTunes

Preference pane improvements:

  • Moved the version number outside of the Credits file, so we don't need to update that file every version
  • Fixed a hang on changing the default display
  • Updated the Brazilian Portuguese localization

Display improvements:

  • Fixed displaying a close widget on mouse-over
  • Fixed humongous memory leaks in WebKit display
  • Made obtaining image data in WebKit display more efficient
  • Fixed displays to register a click on mouse-up, not mouse-down
  • Updated French and Dutch localizations of displays' preferences

Hey I just notice that this new version came out. However, I updated it and everything and my version still shows 1.1.2. I go to the update version and it shows that 1.1.3 is out so I updated again. Everything installed fine but it still shows my version as 1.1.2. Is everyone else having this same problem??? I have Leopard and 10.53

Do you have a Growl.prefpane in the PreferencePanes folder in the Library folder in your Home folder?

If so, remove it.

GrowlSafari doesn't seem to be showing up at all after installation. It's not registering in Growl, it's not seemingly doing anything. I'm running Safari 3.1.1, Mac OS 10.5.3.

Does anything happen in the Console when you launch it?

Console, in case you're wondering, is in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder at the root level of your hard drive.

Nothing at all; the only evidence I have that it's installed is that I can see it in the /Library/InputManagers folder. I can see when GrowlMail starts up, but nothing Growl related happens when either Safari starts up, or the entire system (restarted and scoured the logs for any references)

Nice update! Thumbs up to the developers!

Somewhat off topic, is it still possible to access the trac? I can't seem to find a link on the homepage..

What is GrowlSafari suppose to be????? Only thing I noticed when I look in my growl preferences is that it's suppose to work with Adium. Is this update not working right???

Trac's not back up yet. Soon, though.

I tried to update and it failed due to "unknown error" and said to contact the manufacturer. Ideas? I'm running 10.5.3.

I got the same error that drisely got. I'm also running OS X 10.5.3. Any suggestions on what to look at to figure out what the Growl 1.1.3 installer didn't like?

Interesting. The install went fine the second time I tried it but it didn't give me an opportunity to decide if I wanted it installed just for the current user or for all users on the computer. The first time I tried to install it and it failed I had asked it to install only for the current user. The Growl prefpane is in the /Library/PreferancePanes folder so it appears that the second install was done for all user accounts.

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you be more specific, please?

It used to work perfectly, but now that I have upgraded to 1.1.3, notifications don't disappear anymore, I have to close each of them one after the other. I set it to make them disappear after 2 seconds of inactivity (not sure about the labels, I use the french version).

Growl is putting up notices, but is not playing sounds for me. This was actually happening before I upgraded to 1.1.3 as well.
