Delayed notification...

Hi, I'm running Leopard 10.5.5. I often find that Growl will delay before showing the notification for a new email. A few times now I've noticed the badge on the Mail icon, read the email and then replied to it before Growl finally tells me I have a message. But other times it's almost instant.

I've already tried reinstalling it and still get randomly delayed messages. When I've noticed it lagging I've either had QuickTime or iTunes open as well as FireFox if that's anything to go by, but then can work fine sometimes...

I'm experiencing the same problems, sometimes my notifications are several minutes after the email has arrived.

I don't think it is related to iTunes or QT as I very rarely have them open.

I think it has more to do with the length of time since the last email message was received. When a message has been received recently (within last 5-10 minutes) the notification is instantaneous. When it has been longer than that, the notification is delayed. The longer the time since the last message was received seems to have an effect on the delay.

To test it, I set my account offline for a couple of hours. When I went back online, the delay was around 45 seconds for the first message, 2 minutes for the second message, and about 4 minutes for the third message (I had received about 20 messages in the time I was offline). At that point I quit mail. When I restarted it, I received another message and the notification was instantaneous.

Is there a delay just for growlmail though? Any other apps have a delay?

i use mail unread menu also.. and it has the same issue (incidences not correlated with those in growlmail) and i think it has more chance to happen after i have accessed the plugin's preferences during a session.

JIC it is relevant, I use push services in GMail IMAP (along with periodic checking of mail)
