growlmail suggestion

growlmail needs to not only check for mail in the inbox - that mail needs to be unread also. I use gmail over imap and often read and dispose of messages before they are registered by mail and/or growlmail - growlmail notifications about mails already read is extremely inconvenient!

File a ticket at http://bugreporter.apple.com to provide a public api for us to be able to do this.

Tell me what exactly I should ask for - api support for polling unread messages in the inbox?

A documented API. Right now we're using what's referred to as a private api, basically meaning that Apple isn't providing it, we have to figure it out/guesswork it, and results are extremely randomly going to work, not work, or not work as expected.

Basically the idea of a public api is Apple saying "Here, this is a list of things that you can do with this application if you make a plugin, and here's how they work". For instance, an applescript dictionary might be referred to as an applescript api.

So, basically, we have nothing more than a private api to work with. As a result, well, results may vary. If Apple were to provide a public api for mail, we'd know exactly what could and could not be done with GrowlMail, which I assume what you want would be one of those.
