Feature Request: "Inactivity"-related

Postby temhawk2 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 6:15 pm

Hi, when you are inactive for a certain number of seconds, notifications stay on the screen (if you have that set).

I would like an option to automatically remove these sticky notifications as soon as the mouse or keyboard becomes active again (like with a screensaver when it goes away when you move the mouse).

Specifically, the sticky messages should fade away after the number of seconds that it would normally stay on the screen (without inactivity-stickiness).

It would save a lot of clicking sometimes!

Thanks for your attention.

In case this helps - you can option-click the dismiss (x) control in any notification and it will dismiss all notifications.

I think the most convenient way to dismiss the persistent notifications would be with a mouseover. One could just sweep over the notifications and they'd vanish. Since there is nothing one can do with the notifications (they are not editable or selectable), and one can't even cover them over with another window, I can't think of any loss of functionality that would happen if one chose a "dismiss with mouseover" option in your Growl preferences.

It's also pretty unexpected behavior to see windows disappear simply by mousing over them. I don't believe this would be beneficial for our users. Any other ideas?

Okay, thanks for the option-click tip. That makes the whole thing useable again :)

Another way could be with a right-click. There is no other function assigned to it and right-clicking one notification would dismiss the rest at once. It's like option-click, except only 1 click away :)
