MailMe notifications fail - unable to get password

Postby msbc » Mon Oct 05, 2009 12:03 am

Using 1.2 on 10.5.8

I use SuperDuper! for backup and have configured Growl to use MailMe notification. Sometime recently (maybe after update to 1.2 or OSX 10.5.8 ..) this seems to have stopped working. I didn't notice it for a while as I had temporarily stopped doing my SD backups.

I see the following in the console:
5/10/09 10:21:48 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] MailMe: Could not get password for SMTP account XXXXX@smtp.mac.com:587: -25300/ / The item cannot be found.
5/10/09 10:21:48 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] (MailMe) WARNING: Could not send email message "SuperDuper! Copy Succeeded" to address (my email address)
5/10/09 10:21:48 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] (MailMe) description of notification:
Copy of Data to L1 Data was successful.

I tried using the Preview button on the Display Options page and get similar messages:
5/10/09 10:40:56 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] MailMe: Could not get password for SMTP account XXXXX@smtp.mac.com:587: -25300/ / The item cannot be found.
5/10/09 10:40:56 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] (MailMe) WARNING: Could not send email message "Preview" to address (my email address)
5/10/09 10:40:56 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] (MailMe) description of notification:
This is a preview of the MailMe display

Note: I've masked my email address above but it is shown correctly in the log message.

So, where is Growl looking for the password and how can I set/reset it?

Thanks,
Mark

Most likely 1.2, as we had to rewrite MailMe to make it 64-bit-compatible.

It gets it from your Keychain. Set the password on that SMTP account in Mail, and MailMe should be able to pick it up.

Ok, I reset my Mail password in Mail.app (although my sending/receiving mail has never been a problem) and tried the Preview button in Display Options. Sure enough I was prompted for Keychain access so Growl must have picked up the changed password. I now see:
5/10/09 11:33:59 AM GrowlHelperApp[913] (MailMe) Successfully sent message "Preview" to address XXX@YYYY.ZZZ

messages in Console. BUT - the email never arrives! I tried this a few times, with different email addresses (GMail and MobileMe) in the Recipient field in Growl, but no email shows up.

Any relevant-looking output in the Console?

Nothing besides the "Successfully sent" messages.

Try pasting these two lines into a Terminal:

Code: Select all

which python
/usr/bin/env python --version

What's the output?

Code: Select all

Mark:~$ which python
/usr/bin/python
Mark:~$ /usr/bin/env python --version
Python 2.5.1
