styles examples

Post by twopeak »

Hello

I made an different style fore growl (itunes look alike) but I can't manage to install it to check it.
I double click it, there is a messagebox but I never manage to see the content of it and then the file gets moved to the plugins.
Then I start up the control panels and I don't see my style in it.
I just installed the b3 and it doesn't help...

any ideas?

update: console tells me

Code: Select all

2005-06-03 11:53:45.149 GrowlHelperApp[2242] Plugin at path '/Users/B/Library/Application Support/Growl/Plugins/Example.growlStyle' has no name
when trying to install the style. is it a bug, or am I fucking up as usual?

Besides that, I found the example pretty small; the content of the industrial look was much more helpful to me. Maybe it would be a nice idea if you do take a plugin with a template as example?

Sounds like you've missed out the CFBundleName value in the plist.

e.g.:

Code: Select all

   <key>CFBundleName</key>
   <string>Example</string>

nope, it does have it.

I tried manually selecting the content on the style creation guide and pasting it and making a new plist file.
I only changed the word "Example" into "iTunesStyle" (in the "CFBundleGetInfo"; in the CFBundleIdentifer and in the "CFBundleName")

And that's it.
I tried to install other styles and they give the same error. (that's why I don't believe it's a bug, but me fucking up ;))

So it's still not working...
Thanks for the help...

Hmm - what app did you paste it into?

Perhaps it got mangled in the copy/paste from Safari.

you can check the plist:

Code: Select all

sudo plutil -s /path/to/the/plist

I use the plist editor that comes with the xcode tools.
I started from the plist that came with the example style, and I guess that must be a good one?

when I copy pasted, I used text edit (but converted to plain text first) and then opened the document into the plist editor again...

I checked the plist (first inside the package, then outside the package) and I get no return... (just the prompt)
I take this means that no errors are found...

I get the same for other styles I downloaded from resexcellence...

ResExellence seems to screw something up with the styles.
The two styles I downloaded from there had their plist screwed.
Text not centered.

centering is not in the plist (afaik) it's in the CSS...
Can someone confirem they downloaded from there and double clicked the style and it just worked?

Yeah, I think it's the .sit compression. I made a replacement .sitx archive that I sent in and that worked, though.

ResExcellence checking in...

What I've found with every GrowlStyle I've loaded up to make preview of, whether the compression is .zip, .sit or .sitx, is that the style never shows up in the list until I quit and restart System Preferences.

Just to be clear, this is happening with GrowlStyles I've downloaded from author sites, with styles downloaded via Interarchy from my remote drop box and with styles downloaded from ResExcellence too.

Any thoughts on why the issue would be consistent like that? Is .dmg or .gzip a better way for us to go with GrowlStyles?

I don't have a tiger box to test with currently. Does having it as .dmg or .gz make a difference?

I'd prefer that the growlstyles be hosted with .dmg or .zip or .gz as 10.4 doesn't ship with stuffit actually. But I don't think it's going to affect this issue.

anyone feels like kicking my ass?
I didn't have a "content" folder...
so it works now!
I just need to "finetune" the whole thing, and there's a fine new style on it's way :p

and yeah, it seems like the prefs have to be restarted...
