I just downloaded Growl, and I'm pretty impressed. However, I'm discouraged by the fact that everything associated with it seems to use OSX-only libraries and whatnot.

I'm trying to send alerts to my OSX laptop from a linux server, but I can't find anything that will run over there. Even the Perl module (my language of choice for this sort of thing) seems to only work on OSX.

Is there any preexisting solution to my problem that I've missed? Else, is there documentation on the protocol itself anywhere, so I might write a module to do this? (I'd rather start from scratch than try to reverse-engineer Mac::Growl. I've spent too many late nights trying to do that sort of thing.)
