Growl Network Notification on non-OSX plateform

Hi all...
Aswell at work than at home, I have many Linux/x86 machines (recent semi-switcher I'd say ;-) )... I would have loved using Perl scripts to be able to send Growl notifications on the network, but the thing is that it's tightly binded to Mac:: and OSA libs which are not available for non OSX plateformes (unless I missed something)
Would there be a way to have less plateforme dependant libs for that ?
My co-workers have Linux stations, and or servers are all Linux too, I was looking around the Growl solution for having an visual way (and eye-candy) for being notified of events (like "VPN tunnel crash Paris-Shanghai" or "Alert: Heavy Load on HK Nas" or "Frequent 500 Errors detected on Paris main server") you know, all those visual things we like :-)
TIA
Julien
