How? make growltunes or synergy only show with applescript

I would prefer to use synergy, but will use growltunes if I have too.

I want the overlay (when switching tracks) to ONLY EVER show if an Applescript tells it to.

Simple reason: I do not want the overlay to show up when I am sitting at my computer. I ONLY want it to show when I hit a button on my keyspan remote.

If I could disable the notification (when switching between tracks) and create an applescript that would:

1. Tell iTunes : Next Song
2. Tell GROWL via applescript to display the current track

Then I simply program the button on my keyspan remote to run this applescript. Now I only see the GIANT overlay when I'm sitting on the couch.

Please help me it seems like it should be so simple.

GrowlTunes will not give you what you want here. Synergy or Quicksilver may.

Using Growl to display for either of those will work though.

I really don't understand why you can't send Applescript to growltunes for this, I mean you can do the check rating applescript. I guess it seems so hidden to do something like this. I guess I'm the only person on earth using a remote to control the itunes songs... Even still the bezel style is too small.

Actually I already solved the problem. Here how:

1. Install Synergy Advanced (must be advanced)
2. Open Growl > Applications (tab)
3. Turn off GrowlTunes
4. Under Synergy Advanced Uncheck everything except "iTunes information (hot key)

This makes it so the only way the bezel will show is if the Information Hot Key is pressed.

5. Open Synergy Prefs, assign a hotkey for "Growl Information Key"
6. Write an Applescript that tells iTunes to change to the next track, and execute the hotkey.

Now I assign the "NEXT" button on my keyspan remote to execute this applescript:

Code: Select all

tell application "iTunes"
	next track
end tell

tell application "System Events"
keystroke "o" using {shift down, option down} -- makes synergy show growl overlay
end tell

RESULTS:

BEZEL only shows on screen when using remote control :-D Near Perfection.

In this case you don't even need Growltunes installed to do this, and it eliminates some steps :)

Yeah I have it set on music video, but it still kinda is small, step away from your LCD about 20 feet, like you would if you were walking around your living room. Too small. I wish the music video style was publically available so I could just modify it.

Tick, what about in a growlstyle format? The reason you created this format was to take advantage of webkit, unfortunatly I know nothing about application code, but I do know design, development, HTML, and css. Is there no way for me to modify the music video style?

We're not going to recode music video in css/html when it works, and works well, as we currently have it.
