double track notification with itunes / growl

hi - please excuse this strange question , but im trying to find out if i actually have a problem. i am running OSX Tiger - everything updated on my system - the latest growl as well as the latest itunes (5) . i have had growl on this computer since i bought it about 4 months ago - so i had the older version of growl till i updated to 0.7.2 about a week ago. my question is this. is it normal for there to be 2 seperate itunes track notifications if one is running growl (the main app ) AND growlitunes (the extras app). if i DO NOT run the growlitunes app - just growl - i still get an itunes track notification during track changes in itunes. is this a default track notification from the main growl app ?? or from itunes ?? . the notification that shows up when i DO NOT run growlitunes is a simple white window with a large apple itunes icon and the track name and durration as well as rating. i am not sure if this is a standard default of growl - or of itunes - or if this is a leftover from the old growl app . i have checked with activity monitor to see if i possibly had 2 growl apps running at the same time - and this is not the case . any help or insight is appreciated. thanks much . peace

Same Problem: w/iTunes AND iChat

I have the sampe problem here:

- GrowlTunes works as expected (sending notifications as set in the preferences: Music Video Display)
- But Growl itself sends notifications for tracks. Displayed as bubbles (that's my default set in Growl) with a golden disk as symbol instead of the album cover.

Can't find a way the stop this. My current workaround is to stop GrowlTunes but so I can't modify the display mode, there is no album cover..

What's more important: Now I have the same problem with iChat but kinda worse.

- GrowliChat sends notifications as set
- Growl sends notifications displayed as "Bezel" huge and right in the centre. That really makes working hard ;-)

Any ideas what triggers this?

(The iChat history goes like this: Haven't used iChat for a long time because of Adium. For two weeks using it again. After the first time I had the Growl pane in SystemPreferences open, the obtrusive bezel notifications appeared. Then I installed GrowliChat to make changing the display options possible. Now I have two notifications).

Check to see if you have 2 GrowlHelperApp processes running via Activity Monitor in /Applications/Utilities.

No, there is only one (plus GrowliChat and GrowlTunes).

Do the notifications look a little different, or are they exactly identical?

Maybe you have another program that shows track changes (like quicksilver or iscrobbler)?
What programs are shown in the Growl preferences?

Great hint, thanks. That's the solution to the iTunes side of the problem. It's iScrobbler sending notification via Growl, too. iScrobbler is listed in the Growl preferences, I unchecked it. Now that's fine.

And iChat? Couldn't find the solution for that. Yes, I have Quicksilver installed. No, it is not listed in Growl and I can't find anything in Quicksilver's preferences that might explain it sends these notifications itself.

The second iChat notification (the one I cannot control, that's not from GrowliChat) looks a lot like Quicksilver's "Bezel" Display. A not-so-small square with rounded corners, transparent grey, with a picture of the contact in a clip-art frame. (The first notification comes as bubbles as set in the Growl preferences.)

I checked if it changes when I change the Quicksilver display mode, but it doesn't.
What programs are shown in the Growl preferences?
Nothing suspicious:

-adium
-acquisition
-cyberduck
-ecto
-growl
-growldict
-growlmail
-growltunes
-ichat
-iscrobbler
-newsgrowl
-playpod
-post trackback script
-playpod
-shiira
-skype

Any ideas? Is it quicksilver?

Yeaaiih, I found it. It was the iChat Bezel Widget of Konfabulator. Hadn't used Konfabulator for a long time and didn't realize i had this widget.

I found it in the activity monitor. Great, thank you for the hints.
