The main reason I use the Bezel display is because it spins when you have more than one alert at a time. I find that most of the displays are very nicely done, but when you have more than one, then go under each other. So much so, that on more than one occation, I have lost notifications because they have gone off the screen.
The only way I would stop using Bezel is if there was another display that spun, or if it was introduced as a general option for all displays, like a check box about how you would like multiple displays to appear.

I feel that Bezel is appropriate for things which the system should tell you anyway - i.e. network notifications. That said, I currently use Smoke for just about everything, so technically, no, I don't use Bezel.

I use growl to notify me about iTune's volume, and the bezel is essential for this (otherwise, it just looks awful...).
