WordPress + Growl

Yeah, I'm the 'Phil' in that thread.
I'm sort of interested in the inner-working of Growl. I want to make this script work without being on an OS X server and using the growl CLI app.
How is a growl notification constructed? Would really like to work with the people behind Growl to add something this obviously kickass.
