GrowlMail Throttle?

IS it possible to implement a throttle in GrowlMail so that it will only send X number of notifications at once? I downloaded 90 messages about 10 minutes ago and the notifications are *still* being entered in the console log.
It seems that something is causing a bottleneck, but I don't see anything that is out of the ordinary (except that GrowlHelperApp is shown as Not Responding in the Activity monitor).
