Problems installing GrowlNotify

...on a MacBookPro running 10.4.6.

I mount the Growl DMG and navigate to /volumes/growl/extras/growlnotify

I run install.sh (as root)

First problem: the /usr/local/man/man1/ directory cannot be found.

(That seems to be fine as I navigate to /usr/local and make the two directories. Subsequently, the install runs.)

Second problem: MAN 1 GROWLNOTIFY results in "No entry for growlnotify in section 1 of the manual"

(So I cp growlnotify.1 to /usr/local/man/ and even change *both* growlnotify.1 files to 755 privileges.)

No luck.

Third problem (?):

a GROWLNOTIFY TEST command results in a process which goes on until I abort using ctrl-C.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

You have to copy to /usr/local/man/man1

Thanks Zaudragon.

I wasn't very clear. It did originally go into /usr/local/man/man1/growlnotify.1 and when that didn't work, I cp'd it to /usr/local/man/growlnotify.1 to see if that would work.

To be clear: having growlnotify.1 in *either* location does NOT work...

UPDATE: I found one part of my problem. The manpath.conf file, by default, expects man pages in the /usr/shared/man/ directories, not in the /usr/local/man directories. A quick fix (as it were) was to cp the growlnotify.1 to /usr/shared/man/man1 and the MAN GROWLNOTIFY command works...
