Unable to Create File Catalog

When I try to access my ftp server to upload files, the server takes my username and password, logs in successfully, and then tries to create a catalog of my files on the server. It is never successful, however, and eventually times out--even when I adjust the timeout to 1000 seconds.

Since I never see my file list, I cannot upload files.

I should add that the same problem occurs with NetFinder and Fetch. I'm running OS 10.4.10.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
