I miss the drawer
I miss the drawer
Downloaded the 3.0 beta...looking forward to trying the new features. I am very much missing the drawer with bookmarks...by far one of the strongest user interface features Cyberduck had over any competition. The ability to have them available on screen while simultaneously looking at a file listing had helped me more times than I can count. Would you please consider reinstating it?
Re: I miss the drawer
I second that. After a few minutes in the beta and I didn't find an option to bring it back, I quit it and tossed it in the trash.
Actually, I would like to cast a vote for changing the drawer to a setup similar to Mail, iTunes, Finder etc. in Leopard. Leopard seems to have gotten rid of most, if not all, instances of the drawer and Cyberduck could follow this lead. Even Preview has ditched the drawer.

Re: I miss the drawer
You're talking about having a sidebar. Well, there is a reason why the developer implemented the bookmarks view the way he did...it's truly unified with the main interface. A sidebar isn't as unified with the main interface, just like a draw. A draw obviously sticks out much more than a sidebar, but in this case they would both be performing the same action of having the bookmarks on the side of the window, which would take up more space (not unified).jabohn wrote:I second that. I miss the drawer too -
whatever it is a sidebar / drawer for bookmarks/history is a lot more convenient - you know where to click before you move the mouse.
with the new style you need to switch to the bookmarks and then look where to click.
if i need more window space i can always toggle the drawer off.

Re: I miss the drawer
Just downloaded the final release of version 3, still no option to enable the bookmark drawer/sidebar. It seriously sucks the new way, having to click back and forth. I'll be skipping this release.
Funny though, the icon in preferences for Browsing still shows the bookmark drawer...

Re: I miss the drawer
I too will like to share my dismay about the drawer missing.
I spent some time looking for it in the prefs and elsewhere, then I sent an email to feedback, which they sent me a canned email to come here.
As a long time user of NetFinder, and having it start to crash on me, and no response from the creators, I have chosen CyberDuck. I also use Adium, and Vienna, also Cocoa Forge products.
I am going to donate here real soon, as I believe in the supporting of qaulity software so it can continue to grow.

*registering because while it's ugly as poop, she misses the drawer*
not all of us use leopard and still cling tight to our drawers (both pixel and panty), can it at least be an option? :}

Re: I miss the drawer
Thanks for all the feedback. UI changes are always the most controversal. I personally agree that the drawer is a nice user interface feature - nevertheless I have read on many blogs that they like the new 'unified' approach. I will rethink the bookmark implementation in 3.1 after the 3.0.1 bug fix release is out. The enhancement request for bookmark accessibility gets tracked at http://trac.cyberduck.ch/ticket/1953.
Re: I miss the drawer
thanks for "listening" - I don't get the unified approach. taking the whole page rather than a small sidebar for bookmarks does not really make sense to me. I like the way Firefox displays history and bookmarks. the focus is on the page but you can glimpse at the bookmarks -
and when you are done you can toggle the drawer or sidebar off.
without the drawer you have to make 2 more clicks at least to do the same action. it is less immediate and so on.
what is the rationale of the unified approach if it requires more clicks and more time? seems less efficent to me.

Re: I miss the drawer
I'm really glad the draw has gone, it's just ugly, but I also appreciate that people miss it. I think the typical sidebar ala iTunes would be the most appropriate way of satisfying this predicament. The draw is an old piece of the interface that Apple have abandoned. I always found it rather clunky.
Re: I miss the drawer
yeah i agree that is a bit ugly but a sidebar a la itunes or firefox or netnewswire or vienna would be GREAT!

Re: I miss the drawer

I think the good idea is to have this menu bar permanently visible with submenu to go directly to bookmarks, history...
No ?

Re: I miss the drawer
No I like the sidebar - if you have to search for a bookmark it is nice to look before you have to click.
the firefox sidebar works great and you can toggle it. after all I don't need the Cyberduck window to take so much space - it just needs to display a file list.
on a different topic some uploads recently did not work and I had to switch to RBrowser

Re: I miss the drawer
I really miss the drawer as well! I just installed the newest version and literally started screaming at the program because that was always something I loved about cyberduck. I even looked to see if there was some way I could "downgrade" back to the old version through preferences. I know it sounds silly, but it was one of my favorite things. Of course, it was pointed out to me that yelling at the screen is nowhere near as effective as actually requesting it be fixed would be, so here I am. Please bring back the bookmarks drawer!!!
Re: I miss the drawer
I just want a quick place to access (i.e. drag and drop to) multiple bookmarked servers/folders. I don't care what the UI is, just needs to be accessible all the time.

I agree, I like having the new bookmark/history menubar. Although I do think the bookmarking process is long winded, compared to the drag-n-drop of the sidebar in previous versions.
How about integrating an "add bookmark" option into the contextual menus?
For instance: highlighting a folder, right-click and selecting "add bookmark" from the pop-up menu brings up the bookmark edit window for said folder..... Viola, Job Done !!

This feature has now been added to the most recent nightly build (as 'new bookmark'), many thanks that man!
