Cannot delete damaged file

I have a damaged file on my website. When I try to delete it, I get the mesage "No such file or directory" even though it is listed as a file wih 0 kB. How can I get rid of it?

One way is to overwrite it with any file that you name the same name, then delete the new uploaded file.

I honestly do not remember if I ran into this before. I must have since 1985 on the web.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried that. It does not overwrite the file but creates another one with the same name. The new one is deletable, the old one is not.
