SFTP login problems

I wonder if anyone can help.
I wish to log into a unix box using SFTP. From my office I can log in using FTP wthout problems, but to login from home, I need to SFTP.
Every time I try to do so, I get the message that the password on my account is not correct.
I am able to connect with SFTP using Fetch or MacSFTP. (I have previously purchased these but I should like to use Cyberduck primarily because of its Finder like to expand folders/directories.)
I am not sure what the options in the SFTP pane do, so possibly these are incorrectly set. (Such detailed choices appear not to be present in Fetch or MacSFTP, so I do not have the option of setting them incorrectly.)
Any suggestions, gratefully received.
