Problem posting Links in Adium!

Post by Johnson »

For a couple of days now,
i have been unable to send links (urls) to other users that are not using adium.
When i type in the url (for example http://www.ourpowderdays.de)
and press enter it looks like it gets sent, it appears in my message window allright, clickable and everything.

but my chat-partner receives nothing.
not even an empty post, just nothing as if i never sent anything.

i have already met another user with the same problem!
i have the latest version of adium (0.89.1) but encountered the
problem in version 0.84 too.

please help, this is getting so annoying!

On what service(s) do you have this problem?

i just read in a german forum that this is happening no matter which (third party) client you are using to connect to icq. it seems like AOL is blocking URLs to prevent phising.
if you speak german, you can find more information here.

Cool thanks - at least i know the reason behind all this.

I even got that stupid virus a couple of days ago,
it was .exe, so to hell with it, but what the hell kind of prevention system
is that supposed to be?? Simple blocking every link i send??
If AOL can do that, why can't they at least display a short message instead
i.e. "This link is blocked due to security reasons"

Man the reason sucks even more than the problem itself! :???:

I had a problem with this a while ago over AIM. I don't remember what fixed it, I think "sit and wait".

I have this problem in MSN (Adium 0.89.1 -> MSN on Windows) for certain links.

Example of a link I cannot send:
http://www.scriptygoddess.com/archives/ ... ents-live/

If I change it to this it works fine:
http://www.google.com/archives/2002/08/ ... ents-live/

Weird, huh?

I think it's the word 'script' that the MSN servers are blocking... all this is beyond our control. Stupid Windows users.

Check out tinyurl.com - you can 'convert' a link into a tinyurl which you should then be able to send.

Ah, I suspected something like that, but I thought it would be too stupid. I guess it wasn't after all.

I assumed it wasn't Adiums fault (but I didn't make that clear in my previous posting).

What's even more annoying about it is that you don't get any error message at all. The message is sent and all seems fine. Luckily this time the reciever was in the same room as me.
