Contact List Flashing Color Request

Post by Lyg »

If I have an unviewed IM, and my buddy is typing a new IM, can the contact list flash blue (unviewed IM) and orange *buddy is typing) instead of blue and white? These are the default colors for Adium (white is an active buddy). Thanks!

I think you can change the color of the unviewed content and the typing in the contact list color preferences

This is true. But I think if I have an unviewed message and my buddy is still typing, his or her name should flash blue and orange instead of blue and white. This isn't something I can do, it needs to be changed in the main code.

How about we just remove flashing altogether? As a user aptly said to me the other day, <blink> is so 1990s.

Please don't, I love flashing on new messages.... Otherwise it wouldn't attract my attention.

Rather than getting rid of it altogether, how about making it more of a pulse than a blink? You know, with nifty Quartz-ish fading. It'll still get your attention, but with a little more style.

Just my two cents. :)

It seems cool, but I worry the other thing that might get your attention about that would be your computer grinding down to a halt. That was what I disliked about iChat on my old G3-- the transparent message bubbles took forever to pop up and then open when clicked on.

As the To-Do list says, we really need to make it so that you can run Adium with no blinking. Maybe not remove the capability entirely, but be able to turn it off. I'd love that. :)

Gah, please no animations (or please, check if it can use QE before using animations?)

QE wouldn't help. Q2DE would, but that's a new feature in 10.4

I know, I was just saying using that as a cutoff for animations.

I've a paper due tomorrow.

Therefore I'm almost done implementing both a preference to turn off the flashing and the enhancement to flash between the current status/whatever color and the unviewed content color.

Oh, definitely keep it up :D It's always fun to watch 10-20 commits in the space of a few minutes and realize that some spiffy major new feature(s) just appeared... and then see another huge change a few days later. It raises questions about the flammability of keyboards though ;)

Hehe. Procrastination, Thief of Time.

That's brilliant, thanks Evan.
