Adium crashes a whole lot now...

Post by Lundmark »

Hi,

Adium X 0.77 crashes all the time on my PowerBook G4 1,5 GHz under OS 10.3.8. I can't find any logs to look at though. Where are they?

I can't see a pattern in the crashes. It just seems to happen sporadically, but slightly more often when receiving files. Adium often crashes when I'm idle.

If I could find the log file, I'd probably be able to paste some useful info here.

Look in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/.

So the Adium Crash Reporter doesn't come up when you crash?

Also, you could try trashing com.adiumX.adiumX.plist located in ~/Library/Preferences, and see if that helps. It has fixed a few weird bugs for me in the past.

Maybe instead of trashing it just move it somewhere else. Although with that particular plist it isn't too important to be able to restore it later (unlike things like Accounts.plist for example), corrupted plists can sometimes be of use to the devs.

It actually is created automatically by the OS, to store window positions that we want to be saved for us. It can be corrupt, but it's unlikely to solve too much.

I found that it contains more.

It stores the fonts for each Message View.
It stores plugin names.
It stores if you updated passwords.
It stores what version last did __.

And more…

Trashing it sure did a good job of solving my wonky message view problem after running a broken revision of .8 svn.

Yeah but Fred's idea is less drastic, since moving it temporarily to the desktop has the same effect with a lesser consequence than trashing it. And if it turns out not to be the culprit, you simply move it back and don't have to redo any settings.

Fred, nice avatar btw. :)

switched from 733 quicksilver to dual processor g5

Post by viper7189 »

and now adium crashes 10 times a day.. it was rock solid on the quicksilver.. i don't get it, the only thing i can think of is that i only have 512 megs of ram on the g5.. another gig is in the mail so we shall see if that has any effect.. the 733 had a gig..

it is quite annoying! and the thing that really pisses me off is that my roommate has a g5 imac, same os and everything and it is stable.

weird.

One of your scripts is causing it to crash.

I'd just like to know if Adium Extras can contribute to make the client more unstable.

there is no way of telling which one is there?

Post by viper7189 »

do you think it is best to uninstall all scripts and then install them one by one until the crashes begin again?

Some systems will crash if any script is in profile/away message... doesn't seem to matter what script. We're still working on it.

An easy way of removing add-ons would be great. For example, a list in the menu of items that have been installed separately.
