Recent Contacts list is inaccurate

Post by eavan »

The default set of groups seems to be "recent buddies" and "buddies." But "recent buddies" includes people I haven't talked to in months and doesn't always include those I've most recently talked to. Is there a way to delete the group without deleting the buddies in it? I tried moving them down into "buddies," but when I tried to delete the group I got a message saying that the group couldn't be deleted because the 5 buddies in it weren't logged in.

"Recent Buddies" is an extremely annoying feature that the AIM folks added a few months ago. Basically, the AIM servers (NOT Adium) keep track of who you've talked to recently and add them to a special "Recent Buddies" list. We have NOTHING to do with it. So if you don't want it, you'll have to delete it.

Let me just clarify for posterity. So this is the reason every time I sign on it moves one of my buddies from its original group into this annoying "Recent Buddies" group and I have to move it back to its original location?

Or is this a separate bug all together. If this is the same bug, you are saying deleting that group in the official client would fix it?

Thanks so much.
Love,
Ev

Moving contacts from one group to another is a real bug, and we know abou it. But the "Recent Buddies" group reappearing over and over is AIM's fault.

Got it. Thanks for the reply.

I imagine that the bug moving from one group to another will be address in .8 which I'm waiting patiently for.

I'd rather have it come out later than released with flaws. Keep up the great work devs! :D
