Hi,
I just saw the new multiple chat window in the new ichat (leopard) on this linki:
http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/mac ... ssage.html
and it looks so cool. It would be nice if Adium could include it.
On the left hand side you can see the pictures of the avatar of the persons you are chatting with, and I guess you can make this side bar as small as you could only see the pictures (no names). Very nice.
Then, for the text input you can see a kind of search box. Once again I think it is very nice. Also to input emoticons you have next to it the menu and it is easier to access while chatting, I think.
What do you think?

interesting. just out of curiosity why doesn't adium do what skype or ichat do in terms of emoticon placement. rather than have another button in the toolbar it could even be less un-obtrusive?Catfish_Man wrote:Adium 1.1 has something rather similar to the sidebar there. The emoticons menu has been in iChat like that for quite a while; personally, I never use the menus for emoticons, only the text equivalents. The text entry field is the same as Adium's, except it takes more space.

Simply a matter of available time and effort. Adding the control in there (the text field) takes more code (actually, a fair bit of effort, because the mechanism needs to be abstracted and made available for general usage) and that's the first step only. The next common request would be - "Adium's emoticons are in menus, not the pictures like iChat/MSN/etc." which means another interesting coding adventure because Cocoa doesn't allow menu items to have views embedded in such a fashion, it's Carbon.
