"Name" display for offline contacts (MSN, Adium 1.
Is there any way to remove the "Screen name" display from offline contacts on MSN, and just show their e-mail address, like in Adium 0.89?
Currently, any offline contacts show a very old screen name - I preferred it when it was just their e-mail addresses, as it was much easier to distinguish who was online and offline.

view -> contact name format -> User Name
This should display their email address instead of display names.

Couldn't you just type in their email address as their alias? Or is it that you want it to say Ben when he's online and ben.bloggs@hotmail.com when he's offline?
Exactly!webby wrote: Or is it that you want it to say Ben when he's online and ben.bloggs@hotmail.com when he's offline?
Joe Bloggs while online and joe.bloggs@hotmail.com when offline.
For one, it's annoying seeing aliases that haven't been used for months (the aliases are very old and out of date).The_Tick wrote:Why do you want this?
It was a nice separation between online and offline users
I could quickly glance at the offline list and see if someone was offline or using an obscure screen name, just by looking at where their e-mail address should have been
When you have more than one person who regularly uses the same alias (eg, two Bob's who always have their aliases as "Bob") and one is online and the other offline, I could glance down the email list (much quicker than moving the mouse over to the contact list and waiting for the popup to appear showing their profile picture and email address) and see which email was listed, indicating which Bob was offline.
However, that isn't what I asked. Does it resolve this specific issue?thomasp wrote:Still doesn't show just the email address for offline users and just the alias for online users, so it still doesn't solve the problems I mentioned earlierThe_Tick wrote:
There is an ability to have all offline users show up in a group in 1.0. Wouldn't that do the same thing?
For me is useful seeing email addresses for not login user....I have all contact displayng in my contact list, and is fast to see that for email address the contact isn't log in in my session. Than, some contact user name change every day and when them gone offline I see old contact name.....For me the 0.89.1 configuration it was the best.
No, because of the reasons I stated in my previous post. I can't see any way to set it to have "email addresses only" for the offline group and "Aliases only" for the online group - if there is a way to do this and I'm just being stupid, then please let me know!The_Tick wrote:However, that isn't what I asked. Again, this is not what I'm asking.
Adium 1.0 has the ability to put offline contacts into a separate, virtual group. This separates your online from your offline contacts.
I'm not referring to any functionality regarding aliases, I am only regarding to the separation of offline and online contacts.
Rather than approach each portion of the issue at the same time, I'd rather approach only one portion of the issue at a time. When responding, please take into consideration that this is not about aliases at this point, and only about the separation of offline and online contacts.
This is the specific item I am trying to address first:
So please, from the beginning, just this portion of the issue.thomasp wrote:It was a nice separation between online and offline users
