Something seems very wrong with Adium 1.0.1 and the chat windows.
Whenever I am chatting with people, I get these messages that start with:
<msnobj Creater .....
in my chat window. I know that these are MSN protocol objects. The thing is, they are showing up in chat sessions on AOL, Yahoo, etc. For example, this is a chat on AOL (the ___ was edited to keep my MSN chat name private)

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
Adium 1.0.1 weirdness
Not sure this is the same problem, but you might double check your display name in Preferences then Personal.
I use to get this type of error with MSN in version 0.89 occasionally (requiring a quick edit of my display name to fix it). However this was supposed to be fixed in 1.0 and I have not had it happen yet under 1.0.
Of course if it is showing up in the body of the chat text rather than the display name then my suggestion is probably moot.

nono. the user name thing isn't moot. i just updated to 1.0 and then to 1.0.1... suddenly i'm not my usual nick. i'm chatting under my lil brothers nick? the same thing has happened to me at work except i'm chatting under the name of my system there... i guess it's time to figure it out and fix it. very aggrevating.
update:
guess ill just delete all adium and try for a reinstall.
update:
so i deleted all related system files to adium and thank god i still have an older version to install. i am running adium 0.73 and everything looks great. i'm very reluctant to go ahead back to 1.0.1... maybe i will before i get the preferrences reconnected...
for those who are searching for the similar issue:
wrong nick. incorrect nick. nick changed on me. this isn't my user name. what the hell. wrong name. incorrect name.... etc... hope this helps

After a fresh install -- following the troubleshooting tips -- your MSN account shows your little brother's nickname? And you can't just change it to what you want?balla wrote:nono. the user name thing isn't moot. i just updated to 1.0 and then to 1.0.1... suddenly i'm not my usual nick. i'm chatting under my lil brothers nick? the same thing has happened to me at work except i'm chatting under the name of my system there... i guess it's time to figure it out and fix it. very aggrevating.

well i did try that initially. it wasn't helpful. rename adium 2.0 that is. i tried the whole tshooting suggestive and it didn’t work. i deleted all adium system files and tried to leave the extra's like the dock icons and the scripts but the fresh re-install deleted them. i should have thought about renaming adium 2.0 then. but to answer your question i ended up just deleting everything and starting from the beginning.aptenergy wrote:Does "all system files related to Adium" mean that you also deleted/renamed the Home > Library > Application Support > Adium 2.0 folder?
what is interesting was .73 worked fine but then i thought 'what the heck, i'll upgrade to adium 1.0.1 again and see what happens.' i did and my aim user name comes up incorrect on the top of the contact list and in my chat window again. looks like i just can't use 1.0.1 .
also i run the most up to date OS for a G4 laptop.
is there anywhere i can dl 1.0 or anything after .73 and before 1.0.1?
hmm address book card... let me try that ...evands wrote:It sounds like your Address Book "Me" card is set to your brother, and you're not setting anything in the Personal preferences or by double clicking the name in the contact list to tell Adium you want it to display something else. No?
update: evands you are smarter than i am. i didn't realize adium had anything to do with my addy book. it was set to my little brother. although it's odd because it was fine clear up till the 1.0.1 update. do you think it was always the little brother as my "me" card or that it mysteriously changed? thank you and scratch the downloads for anything between .73 and 1.0 i guess.

Adium 0.73 was released in December of 2004. (Happy new year) x 3. I believe we had no automatic address book integration at that point.
Again, you can easily override the value retrieved from your address book within Adium. I imagine your address book has been like that since whenever it was set like that - more than that, I couldn't say
