Text decoding! Need help!!!

Post by SayHi »

Hi!
Can anyone tell me how to decode Cyrillic text? I am from Russia but I live in US and messages from everyone who writes me from Russia look like "" "ÿ íå ïî ðóññêè ïèñàë"
May be there are settings that I did not find?!

What to do??? Thanks!!!

What service is this on? Most are UTF8, but for ICQ you need to specify the encoding in the account preferences.

Good question.... :???: I don`t know what service.......where can I take this info from? :o Sorry, I am not very good in all these computer "terms"
It is interesting, but with some people I can talk without problem, no need to decode, with others - i DON`T SEE A NORMAL MESSAGE.....
I will appreciate any help with this issue.....

Look in Preferences/Accounts and tell us what service is being used from there. Click the + button to see a list of icons with names beside it. Compare the icon to the one for your account and you'll know what service your account uses.

Also, since you are new. :)
Typing in all caps is considered yelling on the internet.

Ok, I also looked at accounts/options and it shows the following:

- server - login.oscar.aol.com
- encoding - ISO - 8859-1
- port - 5190

You'll need to change the encoding. Try something like UTF-8 or Unicode. My apologies, I do not have adium in front of me to view the options available.

As an aside, for some reason we dont have UTF8 as an option on ICQ. This may be a bug.

We don't need it. UTF8 is always used if both sides support it -- i.e. if both sides are using a modern, sane ICQ client. The default encoding is what is used as a fall-back if UTF8 isn't supported.
The duck still burns.

right cyrillic encoding

Post by xlamer »

i had same problem

you have to switch icq account to windows cyrillic encoding (1251)

do it this way:

Adium>
Preferences>
Accounts>
[double click on your icq account]>
Options>
Encoding=CP1251

и все! :))
