Bug? Network traffic in 1.0.1

Post by michno »

Since I upgraded to Adium 1.0.1 I have noticed that the network halts every now and then and Adium reconnects to the server.

I contacted tech support at our ISP and they confirmed that there are a lot of collisions on the network and that our connection (2mbit DSL) is maxed out most of the time. I then did tcpdumps on my computer when running Adium and compared this to when I run MSN Messenger 6.0.2.
The number of packets related to MSN was more than 20 times higher when running Adium than when running Messenger (they're not coming from the same server, but I guess that's normal).

What do you make of this?

When adium isn't running, is your line still maxed out?

I don't really know. The ISP was the source of the "maxed out" info. I don't think Adium is the source of that problem, but it's odd that it causes so much more traffic than the MS client...

Ask them to give you a report or log files detailing this.

I have noticed on occasion what sounds to be Adium reconnecting too. However, I don't see any visual clues such as contacts logging on and off.

I admit at first I thought I was having connection issues that could blamed on either Adium or my ISP. Unlike the original poster, I would be shocked beyond belief that I maxed out my bandwidth. The "hiccups" only occur at home where I am most frequently connected to the net on a MBpro through wireless connection. The only activity on the MBPro is checking my email (every 3 minutes), occasional websurfs and Adium.

Because I was not seeing any visual sign of a reconnect, only the audible clue, I figured I was paranoid and concluded that my "hiccup" was really just another event associated with the same sound.

Afterall that, here is my question. Does Adium have a log of connection/reconnections that I could look at to see if I am really having network "hiccups".
