Old Status Message Appearing

Post by spewingnonsense »

Hi guys,

I'm a relatively new Adium user and I love it, except for one problem. When I sign on, Adium automatically selects an old status message that I created in iChat. Obviously, I don't want this to happen, so how can I change it?

Just to go into the problem in greater detail: I used iChat with Chax installed during last summer when I created this message. The message itself was a red away message, but now when I sign on in Adium, it shows up as one of those green "available" custom messages. Any ideas?

Are you sure you're not still online with iChat, with it in that status?

Quit.. but disconnected? iChat likes to stay connected in the background - just hitting quit doesn't change its connected status.

Yes, iChat's both quit and disconnected. Also, the particular message that keeps showing up has been deleted from my status menu for months.

a little more information:

the status message in question only comes up when i first make a connection. If i switch from AirPort to LAN, it will also do it.

If I have an away message up and hit the "Return" button, then it simply goes back to whatever Available message was up before.

The problem is that I bring my computer around campus a lot, and Adium stays connected to the internet even in sleep mode, so whenever I move from one AirPort network to another, Adium reconnects and begins to broadcast that same old available message.

Sorry to hijack, but how do you make it do that?

Adium does not do that. nothing does that. If the computer is sleeping you cannot be connected.

No, I'm certain that I was connected because I put my computer to sleep one day before I unplugged the LAN cord. After I unplugged it, it made the sound that I installed for sign-off and then it automatically signed onto AirPort.

While it was still asleep, I went to my roommate's computer to check it out, and I was indeed still online. However, I just tried it again, and although i was still listed as online, i did not receive any of the messages. My guess is that it is just some sort of glitch in the way adium handles AirPort connections.

Anyway, I ended up just trashing all of the plists for both iChat and Adium and now I've restarted and it's fine. No more random status messages.

shit. I trashed the plists and everything and the first time I signed on, the message didn't appear, but now it's back to appearing. Not sure what that means, but i do know that trashing the preferences did nothing for me.
