making an emoticon set

Post by mystery girl »

since there isn't an Xtra forum, I figured I should just ask it here.
there are a set of AIM icons on the Xtras forum already, but I'm actually looking for the emoticons used when you have a small font...the smilies are smaller and simpler looking.
I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to tell me how to go about making this emoticon set?
thanks!!

Best way to learn how to do this is to download an existing set, control click on it, "Show Package Contents", and start exploring :)

One of my (many) projects is to eventually make an Xtras creator to help with this :) Hopefully it won't get lost in the shuffle over Winter break. :)

I have a question about emoticon sets that I thought I'd just post in this thread rather than making a new one.

I've made an emoticon set before that worked fine, but I made a second one and can't get it to work. For some reason, when Adium tries to load it, it actually clears out all the data in the set (All pictures) and everything from the Emoticons.plist file. The thing is that this emoticon set is pretty much identical to the last one I made (With the exception of changed file names and such). Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Well, I do need help, but, like I said, I've already made one that works, and I have plenty I've used as templates. Can't figure out what's wrong.

what i did to make an emoticon pack

go here http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=535 , download that,"show package contents", erase everything but the .plist. then create a folder and rename it ---> (name of the emoticon).emoticon inside the folder put the emoticon and put a .txt file in entittled "TextEquivalents.txt"...

rename the emoticon you put in the folder "emoticon" and in the .txt file put the command you want to represent that emoticon (i.e. if you want the emoticon that smiles, type (smiles) in the .txt file and then when the user has the emotiocn pac installed all it needs to do is type (smiles) [also you can type things like ; ) or :smiles: really almost anything u can think of, keep it simple :D] and the smiles emoticon will come up.

do that for all your emoticons and it should work. its never failed for me!

if this is hard to understand, download the pack and go step by step with the pack, should make sense :D.. if u have questions i will check back and forth

Mr Engel - if you mail me your emoticon pack, I'll have a look at it and see if I can find the problem.

Mystery Girl - we're all happy to help, but we need to know what you're having trouble with, exactly :)

If you're really looking for a total step-by-step guide, or to be walked through it over IM, just say so ;)
