What does "Show File Transfer window" pref do?

I have the "Show File Transfer window automatically" preference, in Preferences >> File Transfers, unchecked. My file transfer window appears whenever a file transfer occurs, whether I start it or a contact does - it seems to do the same thing with the preference checked.

I don't mind its behavior, I'm just curious as to what the difference between having it on and off is.

That preference should open the window or bring it to the front when a file transfer starts, IIRC. If it behaves the same either way I'd say it's a bug.
