Colour/Size of my Font

Post by Pat »

How can I set the colour and the size of my font, so that also other persons can see that, e.g. MSN?
When I set them as I'd like them, they never appear like that on my chatters board...
What can I do?

You mean in your Message View or their window?

Did you try the Raw HTML script and using "/html{<FONT COLOR="000000">text</FONT>}"?

Try that…

Check "Show Fonts" and "Show Colors" in the Format menu. Also, these features will be a bit improved in .80, so you may see better results then.

I thought Pat said that it didn't work:

So I wanted Pat to test it with some other medium of changing the fonts

The Show Fonts/Show Colors haven't been working at all for me. I keep setting my font and it'll just reset it to either black and the correct font, or the wrong font and the correct color.

 here's the old Formatting.plist talk again…

There are a few threads which say that editing a file called Formatting.plist, and setting your font preferences in there, will fix the problem. Only thing is, for me, it doesn't. No matter what the plist says, and no matter what combination of GUI options I choose, I see Helvetica in my text entry box, and everyone I talk to sees Lucida Grande, or, horrors, Times New Roman on a Windows machine.

The other threads mention that this will be improved with 0.8, but I'm not seeing any difference in the new betas. I'm not complaining, but I would like to know if I'm going crazy or not. :)

Custom fonts and colors are broken in .7x. They are not settable reliably from the interface, they do not display reliably or send reliably even after manually creating a formatting.plist file.

Custom fonts and colors (with the exception of background colors at the moment) will work very well in the next release. We're adding options to the main message preference that control the display of other's fonts and colors, in addition to mechanisms for message styles to support custom background colors. In .8, font and color changes made in the message window (via the font and color panels) are saved when you send a message using them, and are displayed locally as well as remotely. The saved font and color are restored automatically for new windows, and may be removed with a new option in the format menu to restore default formatting. In addition, the default message window now contains buttons to open the font and color panels.

If you're having issues with message formatting in the betas, please report it in the stickied beta thread because we are unaware of any issues at the moment.

Thanks. That's all I wanted to hear.

There are 10 times as many threads that say "Creating Formatting.plist will fix your problem" as there are threads that say "Custom fonts are broken."

Yeah, I guess 0.7x might not have this functionality.

With me, setting Formatting.plist to "Read Only" fixed my problems…
