Resizing growl notifications

Post by enkuturi-akrias »

Hi to all!
This bug is a really bad bug, and is hard to explain. I speak spanish so im trying to make an effort...

ok, when i use synergy, and i press “play” a 6 lines long notification appears. that is normal  .

When i press “next” another notification replaces the old “play” notification instead of appearing down.

But, if the new notification is smaller than the 6 lines long notification (example: the first notification was 6 lines long, and the new one is only 4), the next notification and all the future notifications will appear 2 lines down than the first notification . And that is really bad.

The only way to fix this is restarting growl.
I think what the actual version of growl resizes the notifications from down to up and it will be from up to down

is very hard to understand, but if someone understand this, please fix it

There are several things at work here:

1 - what's called 'coalescing' - when you rapidly send notifications and they change in place (like when you press 'next')

2 - positioning - where notifications appear to march down the screen in the order they appear, along with...

3 - cascading - where notifications should wrap so that when they hit the bottom of the screen they start a new column of notifications next to them

I don't see exactly what the issue is outside the normal interaction of all three of these and their known limitations in the current release (in that you can't change positions and proper cascading isn't supported)

Based on these parts could you explain what's occurring or provide a screenshot of the 'misbehavior'.

Note: all three of these will be improved in the next major release, Growl 1.1.

coalescing

Post by enkuturi-akrias »

Ok, the problem is in the coalescing, because when coalescing, the smaller notifications that the first notification gets bad-positioned... Better download the movie who i recoded with the bug in action.
It is here: http://www.cinearte.cl/programas_artist ... wl.mov.zip

In the movie you can see the first “barairo no sekai” notification appears correctly, but when the “Stained glass...” notification appears in coalescing, the next “barairo..” notification gets bad positioned, like a little bit more down than the first. When i repeat the same process, the “bairairo...” notification gets more bad positioned. at the end, you can see what all the new notifications get bad positioned, like the old “bairairo...“ notifications.

Thank you so much for reply me, and please, fix this!
