SIP/SIMPLE?

Post by Dan Potter »

First I just want to give a huge thanks to all you guys for all your hard work on Adium. :D It's by far the most awesome chat client I've ever used and it's one of the things I always show non-Mac friends to cause envy :)

My question is, is anyone working on a plugin for SIP/SIMPLE? Specifically one that will talk to an MS server? I know the Novell Groupware plugin is somewhat related to this, but I tried it out and couldn't make it connect.

If no one's working on such a thing, perhaps I'll give a shot at it... how hard can it really be? (Famous last words )

As an alternative does anyone know of a Jabber transport plugin for the free server that can talk to SIP/SIMPLE? I know the commercial Jabber XCP has one but it's not worth it to me to spend a bunch of money on it.

Nobody's working on this... feel free to try! You should probably come by our IRC channel, #adium on irc.freenode.net , for details of the Adium plugin structure and other questions. :)

Cool, I'll do that when (if? :)) I'm actually getting around to doing it. I think there are some libraries to handle SIP/SIMPLE already, just mainly need to hook one into Adium.

One other issue I had with the libraries out there is that they seem to want to use UDP. You can configure the MS server (as our admin at work has...) to only accept TCP. So I'll have to look at that too.

Basically I usually work at the office for my job but occasionally I work from home, and working from a Mac is definitely not a supported config for these guys (they are all very pro-MS) so I have to make due where I can. I've gotten the MS TS client and all that going, I just need some sort of IM so I can actually hear notification messages when someone messages me. Adium's my first choice since I already use that pretty extensively for personal stuff.

Anyway, I'll get in touch with someone again when I get to that.
