Alright, this was one of my favorite features of AIM and Adium X (the original version). Being able to see what the people I talk to use as their colors helps me identify who I'm talking to without having to look at the tab bar (really useful since I often am talking to so many people at once the tab bar becomes exceedingly scrunched). It also is very useful for chats where not everyone has a defining user icon.
But with the coming of "Adium 2.0" (as the preference folder still calls it), ever since I tried out the first Message Style, I have never seen the incoming colors. I have edited AdiumMessageStyle files many times to try and find a way to restore this, but all of these attempts are fruitless and I end up making an absolutely hideous Message Style due to the lack of color.
I would really like to know how I can edit (or create) a Message Style so that the incoming colors actually come in to me. It's alright if it's slightly lengthy; I've got the patience to edit/write long lines of code as long as I know what I'm doing.
Allowing incoming font colors and backgrounds

It works for font-related stuff for almost everything, but backgrounds don't work if the message wtyle has background-images (like Smooth Operator but not Mockie or Minimal)dchoby98 wrote:This actually wasn't supported until recently, now (for .80) individual message styles can support it. Details I know not, though.

I would like to see message styles do away with coloring
I would like to see message styles do away with coloring completely. I think it's silly that so many message styles have all these choices - Blue over red, green vs. purple - none of which are the colors I WANT TO SEE.
If Adium 0.8 (or even 0.9) would simply allow the user to set the colors (allow buddy color to come to me as buddy sets it or allow me to override) I would be happier and the themes could be simpler.

That's nice but...
it's not what I'm asking for ;-)
I want to override the colors myself. (Think iChat).
I don't want to see theme writers getting comments like "nice but it needs more color choices".

Re: That's nice but...
That's pretty much impossible for anything but a simple message style. They're based on webkit, and the colours are produced by set images, which can't be changed on the fly.vlbrown wrote:it's not what I'm asking for ;-)

For starters, theres
Minimal
Mockie
Pixol (what I currently use)
Care to list others?
This is something I've been lurking on for a while now, but haven't seen much progress since this was posted.
Any new ones out there?
...and actually, I love pixol, but I wish copy pasting from the IM window produced well-formatted text.

Braaaaaains...
Yes, it's a zombie thread, I know, but the issue is still relevant.
It's been awhile since I've gone through the message styles over on the xtras site, and was wondering if anyone knows of any other styles that respect incoming fonts and backgrounds (instead of overriding them with the theme's).
I still love my pixol, but I'm getting kinda tired of it after all these years...
