Cyberduck needs an essential improvement

Post by breiko »

Hi! I think that Cyberduck is a really good ftp client but I'm a webmaster and I need a column with "local files" near the "ftp server files" column!
It's a wrong idea thinking that users should use only the finder! Make this improvement and cyberduck will be the best!

I personally disagree with this; I want a simple program that shuttles stuff between server and client; If a local files pane is added, it better be easy to turn off or hide.

I like the idea of having a local pane. That way, I wouldn't have to open Finder AND Cyberduck when I wanted to transfer files. I could do the whole transfer in one window rather than having to drag from external windows.

That's me though.

I completely agree with this. Local file view is the only thing keeping me from switching from Fugu to Cyberduck. Make it configurable for the people who don't like it.

Ditto, 100%. I find it really difficult to manage comparisons between directories when I have to position a finder window relative to the Cyberduck window. I'd put this at the top of the list for Cyberduck's next upgrade.

I concur - when I switched to a Mac and looked for an FTP application, I initially discarded Cyberduck because the two-pane mode was essential to me; I had always been using applications such as WsFTP on Windows or gFTP on Linux, that have the dual pane. In the end, I got used to working with Cyberduck; it is absolutely great especially for stuff such as remote editing of files, but, without a local directory display, it is very hard to use if you have to do mass transfers of files in several directories.

I know that this is a great endeavour, but it would be great if a dual-pane mode - perhaps with a button to switch with one click from it to the traditional mode and back - could be added in one of the next major releases.

I have to disagree with this.

When I'm using Cyberduck, I find that I rarely even have a Finder window open - I just find where I want to move files to on my remote server, and then cmd+U, select the files I want, and upload them.
