New user, cannot connect to AIM network

Post by Galindorf »

Greetings!

Let me say, so far I am more than impressed with Adium! I was using Fire and decided to check out Adium after learning that the dev team came over here. Some slick work on this program!

I cannot, however, seem to connect to AIM. It goes on and on forever and then tells me:

"Lost connection with server:
Connection reset by peer"

I affirmed that my information is correct, and I can sign in just fine with iChat. I am not having trouble with Yahoo, GoogleTalk, LiveJournal, or MSN. I don't know if I have this trouble with ICQ, as I can't seem to remember my password. Or the email I registered it with. *blush*

Are there some basic steps I can take, such as deleting prefs, changing password, repairing permissions, whatever, to try and resolve this?

I am using the latest build of Adium, 1.0.2, no extras.
Shiny New MacBookPro 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
running OSX 10.4.9, 3G RAM.

I look forward to getting this resolved! I hate to use iChat... you would think a messenger as "advanced" as iChat would get around to enabling tabbed chats??? GAH

Yep, I am one such developer. There was a bug in some of the fire configuration import code, which has since been resolved. If you did the fire import when the bug was present, it could be responsible for your problem.

Go into the prefs, and edit your AIM account. Go to the options tab. Make sure that the login server is "login.oscar.aol.com" and the port number is 5190. It may be worth checking some of the other settings to make sure they are sane to the best of your knowledge.

If it doesn't work with 5190, it'll work with 80, btw.

Hi there!! I turned a whole lot of people on to Fire so now I'll be telling them all about Adium! This hopefully will help others that are having trouble with connecting to AIM after moving from Fire.

It worked like a charm! Thanks guys!
