Growl text is blurred

Post by ANDonym »

For a few days ago, my growl notification turned to look like this: Image
I've tried to uninstall, delete the prefpane and change skin, but the text is still blurred and ugly. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

Another person reported this from when they updated to the latest security update. I was going to have them rerun that manually on their system, so I'd advise you try that first.

I asked some folks who have installed the security patch, they aren't seeing this, so that's not it.

Please provide a list of everything possible that we should know about, about your computers.

I'm having the same problems. All went fine, no problems after the Security Update. But suddenly it doesn't work correctly anymore. I haven't changed a thing on my system. Just restarted it the first time after Security-Update-Restart. Or something like that. Don't really know if you guys know what I'm trying to say. Maybe like that:

Security Update -> Restart -> everything works as usual -> Restart -> Growl is blurred. And I've got the same curious thing about the non-blurred right seid of the notification.

Not sure if this is helpful in any way, I guess it isn't. But there was nothing changed. That makes me wonder. ;)

-EDIT-
Not to forget: I'm on a MacBook with Core Duo 2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 10.4.9 with all patches installed. Growl Version is 0.7.6.

I'm asking everyone I can so we can try to get a baseline on this, but only a few people are seeing this, and the story behind how this happens isn't the same every time.

Would any of you having this problem be willing to test it on a source build of 1.1 (really early not quite done stuff)?

Someone on irc experiencing this problem has built and installed svn head, and the problem is now gone. Any other volunteers to help confirm that the problem is going to be gone in 1.1?

Yeah Im having the same problem as well, Im running a MacBook Core Duo 2.0ghz with 2gb ram, 10.4.9 with all the updates, im interested in testing a 1.01 build to see if it fixes the problem, im not really that experienced in creating builds so if someone could send me a link to download a pre-compiled svn I would gladly test..

Yes, same here. I'd be glad testing it. But no idea how to compile a newer version. With a link to a precompiled version you would really help me. :)

Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to ask again: Any chance to get a precompiled 1.1 version to see if everything works fine with it? Please. ;)

I'm not handing it out to everyone, just a few people to verify that it works or not. This has been done already, the problem will be resolved in 1.1.

Hmm... Okay... But when can we expect that mysterious 1.1? :)

It's been in development for a year and a half, it'll be a while still. We don't have an ETA.

so it'll take quite a time until there's a solution for that blurring-problem? or is there any chance an update to (e.g.) 0.7.7. could solve this special problem?

it would have been a real pleasure to test that pre-version. not just because for having an unblurred view of growl but of seeing what will come and maybe find some problems and helping solving them.

No one is stopping anyone from downloading the source of the latest trunk and building the latest, greatest Growl. We are not, however, going to get into the practice of making pre-built versions for easy distribution- svn/building is the natural barrier we expect others to cross if they want pre-release software. Making it generally accessible makes our lives harder, not simpler, as we have to support something that isn't meant for general usage in addition to working on it.

The other unfortunate side effect is that often times those who use pre-release software feel they can guide or request something outside of standard bug reporting and get it in, which is not the case and falls into the harder category.
Try my software!

I completeley understand that as I'm a webdeveloper and know these cases well. And of course I respect that a lot. Espacially because you're doing a great job on a free software. It wasn't my intention bothering you. So I'll try to get into svn-building. Yes, I think I was just to lazy. ;)

I now can confirm what you already knew:

In 1.1 there's no more blurring. :) Looks so much better. ;)

Something really weird I just found out today: When using 0.7.5 the notifications are NOT blurred. Just in 0.7.6 - and Coda works together with 0.7.5. Very strange!

EDIT
And another funny thing. After updating from 0.7.5 back to 0.7.6 everything is fine again. No more blurring. What's that?!
