Update: The new irssi Growl script: Growl-net + Internet!

Post by Axman6 »

[Update:] According to 'snod', this script DOES work over the internet. All that needs doing is to forward UDP port 9887 to your local mac if you're not directly connected to the network

Are you an irssi user? big fan of the ssh-screen-irssi trilogy over a network? miss your growls? Well, this might be for you. My new script is based on the original growl.pl script shipped with Growl, but mostly rewritten to allow growls over the network.

You can read about and download it here.

There are only a few requirements: Irssi with perl scripting support, a Mac which you ssh from, and growl. That's right, you don't need to be running irssi on a Mac, you just need to have Net::Growl installed. It uses the same settings as the original growl script, with three more for the target of the growls, the name of the irssi 'server', and the growl password.

This is not only my first ever irssi script, but it's also my first perl, so although it's been tested fairly well (for something so simple), it may very well contains bugs. So let me know if you find any, and I'll get on it right away.

Hope you like it, and all feedback is very welcome.

Cheers, Al.
