Hide new message windows

Post by joshuakaufman »

Is there any way to have Adium hide new message windows until you select them - maybe either by clicking on the menubar icon or the name in the buddy list?

If not, it should definitely be an option. I'm sort of tired of new windows just appearing out of no where and distracting me from my work. I've used other IM clients that do this and it's great, notably Trillian on Windows.

Thanks.

Just hide the whole app with "apple-h" (or select in the "hide Adium" in the henubar). That way new chat windows won't appear until you click Adium's dock icon.

Good suggestion, but I don't want to hide the whole app. I just want to hide new message windows.

I guess this is a very specific request but I would be honestly surprised if no one else wanted this. I mean, how many other (well designed) programs just open windows without you asking them to?

Well, almost all the IM programs do, on every platform (with the exception, iirc, of ICQ). That said, this is a fairly common request, and will likely be implemented in the future.

Just because almost all IM programs do it doesn't make it right ;) It's great to know that this might be implemented. Thanks.

I was looking for this option too... I've been searching the preference pane too long before I concluded that it wasn't possible... Pfff

I don't see what the big deal is. Hide Adium (cmd+H) and then cmd+Tab to it when you need it.

Preferences --> Advanced --> Messages --> The one option in the bottom..

Im not using english Adium, so im just trying to guide you.. Anyway, that option hides the message-window until you let adium get to be the frontmost application.

I still would prefer an option to leave the message window undisplayed until the application is clicked, upon which the window would act as a normal window. The hide when not foremost option bugs.
