Adium (and iChat) Crash immediately after launch

Post by kojaxs »

Today, I have suddenly encountered a most problem in which both Adium and iChat (which I use for video chat) crash immediately after launch. In Adium the Contacts window flashes on the screen briefly before the crash.

I have worked through the troubleshooting procedures on the Adium site and have discovered that Adium runs fine on another user profile.

I have opened a ticket, with the full crash log.

I'm not smart enough to decipher the log, but I'm assuming the problem lies with a corrupted file that is used by both Adium and iChat that resides within my user profile... Any thoughts as to what that file might be, and how to fix it?

Your address book is messed up somehow.

I sort of figured that based on the crash log, but do you have any ideas as to what part of the address book is pooched? The Address Book app opens just fine, I have a backup so I don't mind deleting/resetting files, but I don't know what I should touch...

Make sure Address Book isn't open and move the following folder to your desktop: ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook

That contains the database of all your contacts and since the crashing problem doesn't occur with other user accounts on the same machine, it's a possible location of the problem.

Once you've moved it, try launching Adium or iChat.
