I pretty much agree with Fred, I've always felt the same way about Windows. Plus, it resembles the old Classic OS in that for everything you want to do, you have to change settings in three different places to do it. OS feels a lot more logical in many things, probably because it was designed from scratch, without being overshadowed by a disreputable past...

To FredAkbar,
I also used MS word alot, and to tell you the truth, yes I also do have those little "bugging" problems that I do want to turn off, but that isn't windows problem, that is Ms word issue,..so not a reason why to dislike window..you can always choose another program
...
Windows security I agree, that is sucks, and I will not lie, with each update it sucks even more,..Windows XP with SP2..has the biggest thing that I dislike alot about windows,..the firewal...so there I come to what you mentioned..windows thinks for you..and I agree in this case....it's not everytime I want a firewall
....
The add/remove accually I like, why, (most programs)..than I know which program I have installed...:d..and uninstalling a program, not stays installed..that you don't want to..I think with Mac Osx..somethings do stay installed..
..a minus point for Mac:D
To The SilverFox06
that is what I loved the most about mac osx...I have nothing to worry about, those issues
...but again..here on my campus not everybody have Mac..so it's hard to get files shared by windows...because of the "SMB" not usable with safari..(is there a program that gives me that option? instead of me using the "apple +K" shortcut
)
To wunderwood..
That mac alot easier is than windows..well I don't totally agree with that..
why? The setup is a lot different that windows, and it's easy to see..."oh there I have to go"..like the start button in windows
...
but again..I switch..so maybe that mght be the reason why I may find it alittle less easy
...
thanks for the comments!..so I can learn more from others
..
thanks
these where all about windows..about about LINUX platform
..

Basically for the same reasons listed above, but I'll describe them anyway.
Security on windows sucks. MS practically gives malicious hackers/people tools to f00k their OS up as much as possible. (ex: Active X) Not to mention, IE, etc. can download spyware, adware, or anything without your knowledge. Combined with the fact that theres a registry file that remembers all the websites you've ever been to, and that a virus in windows is insanely easy to write...No go for windows..
The sheer maintenance of the system scares me. The fact you have to defrag and scan disk constantly otherwise your computer slow to the pace of a snail is annoying. Not to mention the adware and spyware mentioned above, which you have to scan for weekly, otherwise, that's right, the computer slows to a snails pace. Crashing and freezing is frequent...and annoying.
You have to install almost every program...where on Mac you just (mostly) drag it to the applications folder and be done with it.
Also, when you delete a file in windows, it's not completely deleted. You can use DOS to get it back REALLY easy. While the same can be said for Mac, at least OS X incorperates Secure Empty Trash, for credit card reciepts, previous tax program data files, etc.
just for the discussion..
also..i doubt you'll find many complaints about linux compared to windows mate.

About the MS Word vs. Windows things, yeah, I guess I was just using that as an example of something I dislike about Microsoft products in general. But Windows definitely seems to be designed for less computer-savvy people than OS X. Example: when you do a search for files on your hard drive, in the place where you can select when the file was modified, the choice for "don't include this factor in my search" is called "I don't remember"...as if the only reason you wouldn't want it to search by date of modification would be if you couldn't remember. It's just little things like that that make Windows seem less professional (even XP Pro has that dog that helps you search...not that he's annoying or anything). I can't ever remember seeing anything remotely "fun" or "humorous" in the OS X interface (excluding Easter eggs, etc.).
And I happen to agree that Windows probably has a lot more security bugs than OS X; I was just leaving that out of the equation, to show that I still wouldn't like Windows even if you didn't count all the viruses and spyware and stuff.

Yeah...keep in mind that some OSes are simply better-designed than others. While I'm not necessarily saying that this is the case with Windows vs. OS X, it's certainly possible. The Mac interface has always been known for its simplicity and user-friendliness.

the sad comparision between windows and OSx is that windows is designed with a wide varied of demigrafic in mind while as OSx is designed to be idiot proof. the evidence i have is hidden files for one, windows you can easily chose to view these as for OSx its more invasive. by no means am i saying i perfer windows over OSx or vise versa. but windows is alot more"hackable" while as OSx is less but when you do change something you feel smarter.

This makes a lot of sense I think.

This is a 3rd party solution, so it cannot be counted.

I dunno... being what I would consider a Windows/*nix power-user for years, I've managed to develop a sharp distaste for Windows. I don't honestly think I ask much of an operating system. I won't *completely* blame Windows for the security issues, because there are an awful lot of people trying awfully hard to compromise Windows systems. However, when you have a fresh install of an OS, and it sits on the internet for 12 hours and already has spyware and virus problems, that's a little ridiculous by any measure.
I hated having to restart my 1 year old Windows laptop twice a day because it would just get sooooo slow. I hated the fact that a crash in a program would bring the entire OS spiraling into oblivion. I don't think I'm asking for a lot when I say, hey guys, make the damn thing stable and then build on top of that, OK? Less crashing first, then work on finding ways to shove Clippy into my face every 3 seconds.
But there are 2 things that bother me about Windows and Microsoft (in general) more than anything else.
One is that Microsoft's poor software design (in Windows, Office, you name it) begats poor software design by the vendors who produce software for the Windows platform. My dad always talks about the "good 'ol days" (having worked at NASA/JPL for 30 years, he remembers PUNCH CARDS) when a company wouldn't DARE to release software as buggy as the stuff Microsoft puts out. Now people almost expect their software to run like crap because they've been conditioned over the years to expect nothing more than that. And that attitude begins to apply to all software, until the newest 30 grand CAD package I'm using crashes if you look at it funny.
The other thing I thoroughly dislike about Microsoft (which has kinda been mentioned before) is this idea that they know what you need and you have no idea. OS X, for me, is a perfect blend of terminalishness and GUI delight. I can run both ends of the gamut and have everything just the way I want it. That's nearly impossible in Windows. Geez, I'm 21 and I used to run Norton Editor in DOS. I grew up on the command line diet. And you can't do anything more than renew your IP from the XP command line (OK, exaggerating). I understand that not everyone wants to have to "hack" the system to get it the way they want it, but a little bit of customizability would be nice (without throwing the system into unusable instability).
OS X manages first and foremost to be an OPERATING SYSTEM. As in it operates. Without fussing every 2 seconds. And on top of that, the interface is gorgeous. And it's reasonably intuitive (sometimes less, sometimes more than Windows) and it has a balance of power-user appeal and "I know nothing" simplicity. So I know it can be done. The bottom line is that Microsoft has a gripload more employees than Apple, but they just don't want to do it...
